This post is far overdo, but here it is anyways. Miami was insanely busy, which is expected since it was a business trip. In any case, I hope to post some more about my trip and hopefully get some pictures up soon. The past two months have been extremely busy, as there is a slight possibility that I may take a job in Miami permanently. Subsequetly there are many things that are "on hold", this blog being one of them. So here it goes, a bit about Miami food and whats good and whats not so good.
I’ve been to a few restaurants in my life thus far, most notably Bouchon in San Francisco as well as many others in Italy, France, Germany, and most recently eating sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market (as well as many other restaurants) in Tokyo and Japan. I am no food critic by any means and I don’t generally like the term "foodie", I guess I’m just someone who appreciates a good meal especially when its accompanied by an excellent bottle of wine. Subsequently, as I was traveling to Miami, one of my goals was to seek out the best restaurants Miami had to offer. And since I’m on a business trip, this would be an expense paid indulgement. Below is a list of places I dined at, along with the meal I had. I really should post about each of these meals and give a proper review, however as I’ve said before I just don’t have the time. Out of the bunch, I would recommend Talula as having the best grouper and the best meal in general. All the other restaurants had great food as well, although I have to say my Steak Frites at Michy’s was not good at all. The steak was over-cooked and the frites marginal at best, I guess that’s what I get ordering beef in Florida.
Talula – Preserved Lemon & Thyme Baked Local Black Grouper
Table 8 – American Kurobuta Pork Short Rib
Blue Moon Fish Co – Yellow Tail Snapper
Wyld’s Cafe
Michy’s – Steak Frites
At this point I was rather sick of eating fish for the past week and a half. Most of the dishes they serve in the cafeteria where I work also contain some sort of seafood. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my seafood experience in Miami thus far, but after a while I was craving something more land based. I also visited Out of the Blue Cafe, hoping for some great coffee. Sadly, I found out they were using Segafredo. I was not impressed; the espresso was bitter and thin, lacking the thick texture of good espresso. I’ve always preferred Intelligentsia or Illy for my espresso, however this is a topic for another post.
So what’s next on my addenda? Going back to Miami is a strong possibility, which wouldn’t even warrant a post if I did so since it would be work related once again and nothing especially new. However my next "adventure" will be riding my KLR650 down to Oklahoma to visit a friend, a full post with details will follow (I hope).
