New Downloads & etc.

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Hey all– Last week’s episodes of Tide-Line Blue and Mushishi are now available for download on the website. I’ve also managed to get up most of the synopses, including a particularly koan-like NieA_7 “Why I Love This Show” rant that serves as a direct follow-up to last week’s (except that this one’s not about me). Can’t wait for Thursday… people back from trips, slightly cooler weather than today, and *whisper of awe* Mushishi Episode 20. [Hmmn. I've built this one up so much I'm in danger of being lynched if everyone else doesn't agree on its greatness... or if people get sick of hearing about it before they've even seen it...] See ya! –Matthew

Thanks, those are great

Haruhi-ism gone horribly wrong

I think the ice dancer stud interspersed with the anime ending was great. I suppose the ice dancer should really be embarrassed by the comparison, but it seems pretty accurate.

Haruhi-ism gone horribly wrong

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Hi everyone, I hope you all are well and I hope also to join you this coming Thursday, which may be the last Thursday evening I’m free before school starts.
I wanted to alert you all to something I read on the Animesuki forum. One thing I appreciate about anime fans is that whenever I begin to get really worried about myself (for being able, for instance, to sing the ending theme song to “Haruhi”), people come along and do such things as would never have even OCCURRED to me:

In this thread you will find links to videos that people willingly not only made, but also posted in public, involving mostly the same song. You’ll see people, both individually and in groups, acting out the little dance that the characters perform during the ending theme song, and some horrifying yet strangely impressive stop-action videos of Gundam figures doing the same thing. Some are just awful but some (involving both humans and Gundam figures) are surprisingly and disturbingly accurate.
There are other videos too, including some (for amateurs) moderately decent English and German fandubs of certain scenes, some parody dubs, and some cut-and-pasting from other anime series that was both ingenious and no doubt time-consuming.
Thank you, fellow “Haruhi” fans, for making me look sane in comparison. :)
Have a great week! — JW

Hikari to Yami wa Odoru.

Hey all– Despite Matt’s absence Anime Club will charge forward at full steam tomorrow: Yugo will turn up some dark secrets; Tamahome will, I am sure, find some way to rescue Miaka from her peril [through the strength and purity of his bodily fluids --Gen. Jack D. Ripper]; Keel will be hung by the neck until dead (OK, not really… I think); Ginko will investigate (in two fantastic episodes) the origin of silk and a “robe that embraces a mountain,” revealing in the process what the heck the huge box on his back is for; Dogtato-kun will deal with a crybaby waturtlemelon and annoying mushribbits; and finally, some light may break through the clouds for Mayuki. Can she be saved? Come and find out! Last week’s synopses (and a “NieA_7″ bit about why I like the show) are up and will acquire pictures tomorrow (curse my slow connection). See ya! –Matthew
PS: I thought about writing a book about a bunch of sailors chasing a serendipitous cetacean. It could be called, “The Whale of Fortune.”
PPS: I swear, some foreign power simply took over my hands and forced me to write that PS…

Brief Outage

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

There was a brief outage on the site today due to a DNS problem.  After some re-configuration the DNS name seems to be functioning properly now.

Hey all– Last week’s episodes of Mushishi and Tide-Line Blue are now up on the website; summaries & etc. are coming as soon as I have a day when I don’t actually work all day. (A rare occurrence, but apart from an enjoyable lunch break I actually spent all my time today plugging away.) Now that I have an account on VP Matt’s FTP I’ll hopefully be able to get episodes up a bit faster each week. Augurio buon anime! –Matthew
PS:

New downloads and… a surprise!

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Hey all, your president and vice-president have finally met and combined the file resources of the former with the server access of the latter to get the episodes from last week uploaded to the web site. In addition, we have reached the halfway point of the summer(!) and thus have uploaded our SPECIAL TREAT, the file with the whole first half of Dogtato-kun! Catch up on the one episode you missed last week, and be sure to check out the ending song about Dogtato-kun’s tail, complete with a real life Dogtato-kun figurine (which I want).
See ye in a few hours!

See you in a couple weeks

Have a good trip, we’ll miss you!
Bring back some French people who appreciate good anime, too. You can press-gang ‘em if you like.
