Hey everyone!

I’m sending everyone the link to the registration form for Anime Detour 2007, and I am also attaching a PDF form. If you have any questions, send me an e-mail at sara.deick@uwrf.edu (my River Falls e-mail). There is a whole bunch of information about the convention (its on March 23-25) at http://www.animedetour.com/.
I believe we do have anime club this saturday (I’m pretty sure? If we don’t, someone e-mail and tell me otherwise so I know), and I would be really happy if everyone could give me their forms then. If you can’t turn it in by then, send me a message ASAP and I’ll talk to my contact and see what she says. The cost is $25. I recommend that everyone who wants to go register now (or as soon as you can), because there is a risk of a registration cut-off this year.

Thanks everyone. Happy Thanksgiving!

Windy Tales cat

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I need an image containing one of the Windy Tales cats (flying). I need to be able to crop out anything other than the cat and perhaps some clouds.

My goal is to create a png file with the cat being the only opaque part of the image, but I will accept an image in any format.

Do any of you have a suitable picture?

Gretel upload soon . . .

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Yes I swear it will be available sometime over thanksgiving break when I have access to my home Internet connection, a reliable DVD drive, and some spare time.

Everything except “Gretel,” which is waiting for Matt… ;-)

If you missed “Windy Tales” or “Yume Tsukai,” get them. They’re eschatologically excellent!

A Warning

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Hey all—

Just to let you know that tonight’s Anime Club meeting will be flat-out fantastic, and if you do not attend, WATASHI TO KEKKON SHITE MORAIMASU YO!!!

Meow! Mrr! Ffft! Pfph! Wrnow!

Hsss…

Anyway, while you practice diligently I shall perform previews: something incredibly tragic will happen to that cute armor-cat in El-Hazard as the plot springs off the ground hissing and scratching and we finally find out what Makoto’s power is (and who the mysterious girl who sent him to El-Hazard in the first place is… the answer may not be what you expect)! There shall be cat-led BALLET in Princess Tutu despite my story’s temporary technical difficulties! In Windy Tales—doubt me not, a cat would never lie—my fellow felines will have to be evacuated to the moon as a dire danger threatens the planet! And in Yume Tsukai… well… there are no cats in Yume Tsukai. But I have to tell you, this episode is stronger than catnip—you absolutely must see it! If you have had doubts about the show before, doubt no more… and GET BACK TO PRACTICE!

See you there! Or else…

—Neko-sensei

PS: Matt has “Gretel” now. Please direct your wave of complaints about its un-uploaded status towards him, not me. OK, so it’s not exactly a wave… OK, so everyone’s nice and no one’s whined at all… anyway, hopefully someday it will be up…

PPS: I have just been informed that my threat may possibly constitute a violation of Covenant. Blast it, when did I sign that? Wait… when did I start being a cat, anyway?

Excellent Downloads Available!

Hey all–

This week’s episodes of Windy Tales and Yume Tsukai are now available for download from the Anime Club server. If you missed them on account of illness or having to leave early… get them! ‘Twas a fine night when all agreed that every episode was superb… Remember to be up to speed with Yume Tsukai especially, for while the show’s getting better and better, it’s next week’s episode that’ll knock your socks off.

In other news, poor Matt Williams has been sick all week and as a result I’ve not been able to give him Gretel—blame Matt’s microbes, not me. Get well soon, Matt!

See you all next week!

—Matthew

PS: Special Preview:
Nanigoto mo yume maboroshi to omoishiru mi ni wa urei mo yorokobi mo nashi
“This hath I come to know:
“All is but an ephemeral dream.
“Grief—joy—there are no such things for me.”
—Ashikaga Yoshimasa’s death poem, cited in “Yume Tsukai” ep. 9.

An Innocent Question

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Hey all–
You remember how in those old Hanna-Barbera Bible cartoons you saw in youth group as a kid, Joseph and the Pharaoh (for example) would be standing around in their authentic-looking topless Egyptian garments, baring their suntanned chests to the world, and none of them would have nipples? This bothered me to no end as a child, for I was forced to conclude that either a) Hanna-Barbera had no knowledge of human male anatomy and thus a suspect knowledge of Biblical events or b) people in Biblical times had not yet developed nipples. Needless to say, neither of these conclusions was greatly helpful in allowing me to connect with the Bible stories.

I ask this because of my duty to warn you that tonight’s episode of El-Hazard will suffer from the exact opposite problem. Yes, it’s the prerequisite Hot Bath Episode, and it’s probably the series’ funniest (and one of the most enjoyable)–assuming you don’t mind a few inappropriate dots of color. But don’t worry, folks–Shayla will end the unBethical going-ons (and demonstrate why she is my favorite human character) with a powerful and well-reasoned argument in favor of modesty and virtue. (Thesis statement: “[expletive] peek at me and BURN, [expletive]!”)

In other news, Drosselmeyer will leap back into the foreground of Princess Tutu’s story (blast his Intentional Fallacy!), Windy Tales will draw in the Sturgis crowd with an episode about a Motorcycle Daddy, and Yume Tsukai will continue to gloom (yes, it’s a verb, look it up) as a child’s guilt about her parent’s antagonism creates the most heart-wrenching and intricate dream yet. All this and more (including fine company and a warm spot in chilly weather) at the next Anime Club–tonight!

See ya there!

Boys and Girls!
Step right up, step right up, for an unmissable entertainment experience! Your eyes will not believe it! Your mind will not comprehend it! All! Under one roof! Step this way, and extravagatize your senses!
–SEE the world’s cutest cat used as body armor! (I mean it literally, folks!)
–HEAR the World’s Greatest Anime Orchestra as Fakir discovers his true self!
–FEEL the heart-rending breakup as Miki buys into Freud’s theories about the infantile libido!
–SMELL the scent of Bergamo lilies as the Yume Tsukai begin to discover the darker side of their task!
And believe me, ladies and gents, if we had another three or four shows I could include all of the senses, even psychometry! Don’t miss it! It’s absolutely FREE! And if you come, you can get me to stop yelling! Everyone’s a winner!
See you there!
–Matthew
PS: “Gretel” will get up next week, I promise… it fails every time I try to upload it; I need to give it to Matt and have him do it.
