Bethel Anime Club

Hey all–
It’s that time of the week again, when I emerge from the dim light of my underground lair, wipe off the various dusts clinging to my skin (the yellow-brown flakes of old disintegrating books, the puffy cobwebby strands that spontaneously appear on computer equipment, the white grainy detritus of stale popcorn, the flaky residue of the peeling sunburn I got the last time I allowed the light of day to strike my pallid skin), decide that I can go another week without showering or shaving, and force myself out into the fulgent late-afternoon light to come to Anime Club. If I can weekly be resurrected from my temporary grave, than surely you should throw aside your petty concerns and come to the event that inspires such devotion in such a monstrous misfit as I!
More Fushigi Yuugi, more Urusei Yatsura, more Dennou Coil, and more new things to come, tonight only, at the Bethel Anime Club! Remember to bring anything you want to submit for viewing…

Hey all—

Last week’s shows having found favor in the eyes of the people, we’ll be keeping most of them up: Romeo x Juliet, Dennou Coil, and Urusei Yatsura will surely be returning; Fushigi Yuugi will most likely be up for vote; Fumoffu may or may not be shown depending on how Matt and I feel. If we watch anything new, it’ll most likely be Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or Kemonozume or Lucky Star or Bokurano or The Snow Queen or Aria or Fantastic Children or Sola or whatever anyone else brings and wants us to watch.

We’ll do our best to update anyone who missed the first episodes of the three returning series. I know what you’re thinking: “why don’t you just upload the unlicensed first episodes of Romeo x Juliet and Dennou Coil to the Anime Club server? After all, that’s what it’s THERE for!” Well, believe it or not, I am currently stuck on the only connection in the world that is just fine with BitTorrent transfers but conks out after about twenty megabytes of an FTP or HTTP transfer. (Thank you, Comcast, for helping to make my life a more surreal place.) But fear not! I shall upload the episodes we watch from school, even as we watch them.

Everyone be sure to show up tonight to give a big welcome to Scot Eaton! His interest in ethnic music would inspire me to screen Beck if I hadn’t already gotten in a lot of trouble for the cussing… maybe I can just play Escaflowne music before we begin.

Usual time, usual place, unusual items: we will be watching some Fumoffu, Fushigi Yuugi, Urusei Yatsura, Romeo x Juliet, and Popee the Performer. Oh, wait… no, I guess I’d better make the last one, Aria, or maybe Kemonozume, depending on how the mood strikes me and whether or not I have the energy to deal with the resultant lawsuits.

If the President-elect could bring Fumoffu and the Faculty Liaison could contribute Fushigi Yuugi and Urusei Yatsura, I would be much obliged. See you all tonight!

Interested in seeing Paprika, the excellent* new film from Satoshi Kon? Then join my father and me as we travel down to Lagoon Cinema tomorrow, at 9:40pm! (Yes, I wish we could make it to an earlier showing, but we can’t.) Missing the chance to see this movie in the theaters would be a crime against anime fandom—don’t commit an act of treason! Come along!

Just need to let you know that, alas, there shall be no Anime Club tomorrow night–Matt can’t be there, I can’t be there, my sister can’t be there, and in general it would be pretty lonely.
