Like every week, we are meeting once again in AC337 this Saturday, 7PM. Matt F will not be joining us, but I expect the rest of you to be there!

If you don’t already know (you really should already know this), this Saturday is our kick off for the semester with a showing of Only Yesterday! Make sure you bring a friend or two, there have already been a number of people expressing interest in coming who don’t normally attend. Get ready for the first Anime Club meeting of the semester! One VERY important note, ONLY this meeting will be in HC127 at 7pm on Saturday, these are the classrooms directly below the DC! I’ll try and remember to put a sign up on the old door of I can remember.
What will we be watching? I’m not quite sure to be honest, we will be sampling a number of shows to figure out what we’ll be watching this semester. So come and bring the first episode of a show you would like to watch, or just sit back and relax and see what we have to offer.

The Bethel Anime Club Fall Semester Meetings Saturdays, AC337, 7:00pm

Anime Club will meet in AC 337 on Saturdays from 7-9 EXCEPT on February 9. On that day we will be in HC 127 (under the DC).

Ok, well apparently the email list won’t let me send emails out with image attachments, so you’ll just have to go to the website to see them .. . .
For all of you wondering what myself and Rachel have been doing in Europe for the last month, here is a short update on how we related our trip to anime and manga. Although the class was “supposed” to be about this history of science in Europe, there were a number of events anime related.
On my previous trip to Italy, I saw the first episode of Last Exile on MTV Italy, so I was eager to see if I could perhaps recreate the experience this time. Thankfully in Padua, our hotel was equipped with cable TV, and did get MTV. Although their anime block was supposed to be on Friday night, I decided to give it a shot on Saturday night anyways. Quite to my surprise, they were showing a number of series I was familiar with. Black Lagoon, Full Metal Alchemist, and one other I can’t remember the name of (Matt F knows what I’m talking about, I think its Gin Tama) where on. Despite the fact they were in Italian, it was fun to watch none the less, especially Full Metal Alchemist where Ed sounds like a 3 year old girl. Next on the list of experiences was the Manga Cafe in Paris (there are a few pictures attached to this email of the Cafe). Thankfully the lady working there spoke some English, it cost 4 euro per hour and 1.5 euro after that for access to over 8,000 volumes of manga, internet access, drinks, and games. Although all the manga was obviously in French, I was able to look at a few volumes I had already read in English. Lastly, there was a small section dedicated to manga in the British museum (more attached pictures for your enjoyment). I will leave you all with a few famous places I visited which appear in a number of series:
Trinity Blood (Vatican): Ok, so it looked a bit different from the anime, but can’t you see the resemblance? If only the Swiss Guard was as cool as the Inquisitorial department in Trinity Blood (and Vampires were real).

Versailles (Rose of Versailles): Sadly since it was winter, the garden was not as spectacular as it looked in the anime, and it also lacked the sparkles. I was amazed at how LARGE it actually was, I could have really used a horse to get around.
Read or Die (British Library): I was expecting those huge carts full of books moving about, but sadly I saw none, nor could I find Yomiko hidden among the books reading (or Sheska for that matter). Perhaps the British Library is an evil organization bent on taking over the world, what could possibly be behind all those books?
Aria the Natural (Venice): Well I guess Aria isnt actually set in Venice, but they look kind of similar. The real Venice lacked the happy pastels of the anime, and I’m sure if I could smell the scenes while I was watching Aria, it would be much more pleasant than the putrid stench of sewage fermenting in the stagnant canal water.
