Last meeting of the year!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Its that time, believe it or not this Saturday will conclude this semester’s anime club run! So come and watch as we conclude the Twelve Kingdoms first story arc and hopefully catch up on some other series. Sadly, there will be no Chipotle however that should not stop you from not attending! Also, we will discuss (and vote, it anyone has an opinion) what our summer meetings may entail, so don’t miss it!

In Which I Abuse This List For My Own Selfish Purposes

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Hey all—
Ex-prez here, inviting you to something that has absolutely nothing to do with anime (except insofar as it involves learning about another culture through film). Tomorrow at 5:00 Oak Street Cinema will host an encore showing of “Wind Man,” a Russian/Kazakhstani film based on “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings” that absolutely blew the audience away at this year’s International Film Festival. The film is not available with English subtitles anywhere else and has not (and most likely never will be) picked up by a Western distributor, so in all likelihood this is literally your ONLY CHANCE to see something different from anything you’ve ever seen before. Seriously, folks, I cannot even tell you how much I loved this movie. It was. SO. good.
Info: Tuesday, May 6th, 5:00pm Oak Street Cinema 309 Oak St SE, Minneapolis Just take 35W south, exit on University, take a left onto University, and then take a right on Oak Street. You can park on the street (or in the garage if you have money to burn). The showing is $7 for students; they only take cash, so stop by the ATM.
After the show, if such is the general wish, we could eat and talk at the nearby Chipotle or Bruegger’s. My work schedule tomorrow is still in flux; if I can’t make it, then be sure to let me know what you thought…
–Old, Ugly/Outmoded Matthew
PS: Since the poor little place is closing, this may also be your final chance to experience Oak Street Cinema’s unique atmosphere, friendly employees, and now-you-see-them, now-you-don’t chair bottoms.

Nodame Conclusion!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Hey All,
Saturday, AC337, 7pm
This weekend I plan to run through the last three episodes of Nodame, concluding the series! Additionally I will once again bring some type of food to encourage attendance. This Saturday I will certainly need some anime, as I will be presenting my senior research for all the biology faculty, so wish me luck!

Aria on dvd

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Nozomi Entertainment Licenses Aria (02:48 PM EDT): One of the top ten titles in our Most Wanted discussions, Nozomi Entertainment announced today that it has acquired the anime series Aria. The first thirteen episode season of the franchise originally aired in the fourth quarter of 2005 and will see a DVD release in North America on 09/30/2008 in a complete box set. Based on the manga by Kozue Amano which saw release initially from ADV Films and then eventually from TOKYOPOP, the anime series was directed by Junichi Sato with character designs by Makoto Koga. The third season of the series just recently completed its broadcast run in Japan as of March of this year.

Reminder and Confessions

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Yes its your weekly reminder to not miss Anime Club this weekend on Saturday at 7pm in AC337. This time, I may just bring some food items to promote attendance. The website is still down, I have no time although after May 3th I should get some free time, after which there will only be two or three more Club meetings! It is true, this marks the end of 3 generations of “Matt” presidents, after which Rachel will assume the prestigious title. Sadly, I fear my short presidential term will be marked with memories of unknowingly recommending anime with topless nudity in unbroken succession, I contend this was pure chance. I can only hope Rachel will be able to return the Anime Club back to its Bethical moral center, to hopefully encourage further attendance next semester.
On a /slightly/ more serious note, we may want to discuss the possibility of holding Club meetings over the summer, I know I would attend. If Alex or anyone else who had to miss this semester is interested as well, please email myself, Rachel, or Gossett. See you all on Saturday!

Reminder

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Once again, this is your weekly reminder to go to Anime Club this Saturday at 7pm in AC337! Also, just a notice that the Bethel Anime website is currently down, I have no idea when it will be back up since I’m drowning in my research project, which does not involve fixing web servers. Hope you can make it this week Justin!

Allison and Lillia

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

I have now watched two episodes of Allison and Lillia. I think it is going to be a very nice series.
At present I am not sure why it isn’t named Allison and Wil.

We meet again!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Just a friendly reminder that we will be resuming anime club this Saturday at 7pm in AC337. To all of you who attended Detour, it was a great time although I was disappointed I was unable to attend on Sunday, you’ll have to let me know how things went. Also, if anyone took pictures if you could bring those along as well that would be great, thanks!
