Hey all—
Ex-prez here, inviting you to something that has absolutely nothing to do with anime (except insofar as it involves learning about another culture through film). Tomorrow at 5:00 Oak Street Cinema will host an encore showing of “Wind Man,” a Russian/Kazakhstani film based on “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings” that absolutely blew the audience away at this year’s International Film Festival. The film is not available with English subtitles anywhere else and has not (and most likely never will be) picked up by a Western distributor, so in all likelihood this is literally your ONLY CHANCE to see something different from anything you’ve ever seen before. Seriously, folks, I cannot even tell you how much I loved this movie. It was. SO. good.
Info: Tuesday, May 6th, 5:00pm Oak Street Cinema 309 Oak St SE, Minneapolis Just take 35W south, exit on University, take a left onto University, and then take a right on Oak Street. You can park on the street (or in the garage if you have money to burn). The showing is $7 for students; they only take cash, so stop by the ATM.
After the show, if such is the general wish, we could eat and talk at the nearby Chipotle or Bruegger’s. My work schedule tomorrow is still in flux; if I can’t make it, then be sure to let me know what you thought…
–Old, Ugly/Outmoded Matthew
PS: Since the poor little place is closing, this may also be your final chance to experience Oak Street Cinema’s unique atmosphere, friendly employees, and now-you-see-them, now-you-don’t chair bottoms.
