Anime Detour Registration!
Monday, September 29th, 2008First I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that showed up for the Spirited Away showing! For those who hadn’t been exposed to many of Miyazaki’s works, hopefully you enjoyed Spirited Away and perhaps will begin to explore some of his other great films such as Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa.
Believe it or not, pre-registration for Anime Detour has been open for a while and is already 13.57% full (this is the exact figure they gave on their website)! Now is the time to get our forms in and registered to secure our spots, especially considering the last two years they have been sold out at the door. This year should be especially interesting, as AD is changing venues from the eclectic “Thunderbird” Ramada to the larger and perhaps more up-to-date “Crowne Plaza”.
For those of you who have no idea what Anime Detour is, or have never attended a anime convention, I’ll give a brief explanation. Basically its a gathering of individuals who share our same interests in anime and Japanese culture and takes place and a convention center over the weekend once a year. The Anime Club has been attending as a group for the past three years, and every time we’ve had good responsible bethical fun. There are a number of panels running throughout the weekend covering various topics from hosting guest speakers from the industry, AMVs, to “The Horrors of Anime” in which your reminded not all anime is good. They also show anime basically 24 hours a day in a number of viewing rooms, often with new releases from American distributors. Theres also the aptly named “dealer” room in which you can buy anything anime related, and watching cosplayers is also entertaining. If your concerned about not being “otaku” enough for this sort of thing (as I was initially), don’t worry, if you enjoy coming to anime club you’ll have a blast. For more info see http://www.animedetour.com/, or check out http://bethelanime.ath.cx/?cat=2 to see photos of previous years.
So, attached to this email is the registration form. Print it out and bring it with you to the next club meeting, along with your payment, and I’ll send them in together. The pre-registration price is $35, although if we get 10 or more people to sign up we can get a group rate and bring that down to $30. If you don’t have a form of transportation, don’t worry, we’ll figure something out when detour rolls around. Hope your week is going well and see you all this Saturday as we resume our normal lineup!
