Elf Princess Rane

Prepare Thyself.

There are some comedic anime that ground their comedy in carefully-constructed characters, realistic yet humorous situations, and a careful eye for the details of life. There are some that work with a large brush, clashing absurd people into one another at high velocity and higher rates of speech. And then there’s Elf Princess Rane, which starts by throwing all laws of physics, cause and effect, and interpersonal interaction out of the window and moves on from there. This is not to say that there is not a plot; on the contrary, the whole point of the show is that there are too many plots. Everyone thinks they’re in a different genre, and nobody’s caught on to the simple fact that they’re actually inhabiting a comedy—thus, hilarity ensues. With earnest elves, backwards-talking villains, exploding amusement park rides, and an army of identical sisters, Elf Princess Rane is guaranteed to blow your mind in the happiest possible manner and leave you in quivering, gelatinous hysterics.
