Week 1 Summaries
Episode 1 and 2 Summaries:
Episode 1 (“Your Tail is Great!”) introduced us to our main cast and set up the general, uhm, ambiance of this very unique little series. It all begins with the as-yet-nameless worm, who, out for his daily wiggle, is nearly killed by a bunch of rolling potatoes. One potato jumps out from the bunch: Dogtato-kun! As anyone looking at him can see, he’s a very poor walker but a fantastic roller. The worm soon forgives him and congratulates him on his tail, which is very cool. In response, Dogtato grows a flower. Out of his tail. Anyway, as Dogtato walks along after this encounter he sees the Cucumbird and its child-substitute-things, and also meets a pair of ladybugs in love. He gives the insects the flower, the guy ladybug gives it to the girl ladybug, and everyone’s happy. After this he accidently steps on Hedgetato, who is capable of growing flower-spine-things all over her body, and although she is at first rather annoyed at him she also thinks that Dogtato-kun’s tail is great. The two make up and agree to go on a date. After a night, narrated by an odd green thing (“Because the sun rises, it also sets… mweh heh heh heh heh”) the great day dawns. The ladybugs return and repay Dogtato-kun’s kindness by making themselves into a little hat and bow-tie, Dogtato’s magically growing tail saves the two from getting soaked by a rainshower, and the episode ends with Dogtato-kun and Hedgetato-chan staring deeply into each other’s eyes (or just facing each other; it’s tough to tell with this animation) as the worm bites into Dogtato-kun’s oh-so-cool tail. At this point Liz uttered her eternally glorious quote.
Episode 2 (“We Finally Meet”) features Dogtato-kun waiting under the tree with pink flowers to meet Hedgetato for a date. Eggplooch comes along, spinning rapidly, and invites Dogtato to rub his slick, squeaky butt. (“Ah! Such beautiful skin!”) He spins off and Dogtato-kun wonders if Hedgetato can also do cool spins like that. Next the Cucumbird and its Beanbird “children” come along and Dogtato wonders if Hedgetato also has a large family of miniature pink things. He is startled out of his reverie by Boartato, who declares that he can’t stop running until he bumps into something (in this case Dogtato-kun). Naturally Dogtato-kun wonders if Hedgetato-chan can run really fast like that, and then starts worrying that she may have come and gone before he noticed! His fears are allayed when Croconion springs of out of the ground beneath him, laughing in his, eh, utterly unique manner. He points out that there is another tree with pink flowers on the next hill, and Dogtato-kun rejoices to see Hedgetato waiting under it. The two are even happier to see each other after having waited so long, and Croconion declares that “to wait is to forgive. Mweh heh heh heh heh.”
