Week 8 Synopses

Episodes 14 and 15 Synopses:

Episode 14 (“If We’re Together…”) “Corn! Corn! Corn!” Dogtato-kun and Hedgetato-chan are happily engaging in their very favorite activity (taking a walk together; it’s nice to see that this is all romance need consist of) when they hear this bouncing sound: it’s the voice of a corn-fox mix who goes by the name of Cox. He’s an incredibly good jumper (apparently kon is both “corn” and “boing” in Japanese), and kindly offers to let Hedgetato ride on his back while he bounces around. She has great fun, but after a minute Dogtato-kun begins to be sad and wanders away. He runs into a mentorly Croconion and says that he for some reason he just can’t be happy when he sees Hedgetato-chan having more fun with Cox than with him. Croconion suggests that he meditate, and although Dogtato-kun is not exactly built to assume Croconion’s meditation position he tries his best. When he opens his eyes he discovers, to his horror, that he is in a plain full of Croconions, but only one is the real one. Croconion keeps on moving around in a sort of indescribable way (I’ll try: the Croconions are all featureless stalks, and his legs and eyes will pop up on a random stalk) and laughing at poor Dogtato-kun, who eventually reaches his maximum capacity for Dogtato-kun Unhappiness and calls for Hedgetato. To his delight she finds him and says that she left Cox behind as soon as she couldn’t see her beloved Dogtato-kun anymore; how could she have fun without him? Joyfully reunited the two agree to head home—but as the episode ends they realize that the plain full of Croconions is endless, mweh heh heh heh heh.

Episode 15 (“The Tweeterines’ Treasure”) shows our heroes safe and sound, so we can assume that they somehow escaped from the verily versal verdancy of the last episode. The episode start with a bang as a tangerine skin bursts open and out pop the Tweeterines, little birds shaped like tangerine slices who bouncily create a wonderful scent. Their pink fragrance floats over Dogtato-kun and Hedgetato-chan as they watch Cabbopotomous pursuing Lettuphant again. “Goodness,” he says, “she really likes to run.” When Hedgetato suggests that maybe it’s because Lettuphant doesn’t like being chases, Cabbopotomous gloriously fails to get her point. At that moment they smell the Tweeterines and join several of the other vegitanimals beneath the Tweeterine’s tree. With Cucumbird translating via the beanbirds, the group discovers that the Tweeterines have a wonderful treasure inside the skin of their tangerine. A gust of wind almost blows the tangerine away, but Cabbopotomous catches and replaces it, to the delight of all. But wait! The treasure has fallen out! The Tweeterines panic and Cabbopotomous dives into the river to rescue it while everyone else runs along the banks. Meanwhile, a characteristically sullen Lettuphant is washing herself downstream when her trunk picks up a mysterious orange orb that makes her feel… well… happy. But the feeling vanishes when she sees Cabbopotomous swimming at her, yelling something about treasure. Unable to outswim him, she chucks the treasure at him as hard as she can and scores a direct hit, knocking him out; fortunately the treasure bounces onto the bank and the Tweeterines cheerfully reclaim it. Lettuphant, whom I am beginning increasingly to dislike, praises herself for her good save while Cabbotomous floats motionlessly downstream. As the episode ends Cucumbird asks the Tweeterines what exactly this treasure is, and they reply that they found it in the river and they’ve got no clue. Oh well, I guess that not all mysteries were meant to be uncovered…
