Week 9 Summaries
Episodes 16 and 17 Summaries:
Episode 16 (Crybaby Waturtlemelon-kun) introduces us to a new character and a new location: the seashore! Yes, Dogtato-kun and friends are spending a day at the beach, but poor Waturtlemelon is kind of afraid of the whole enterprise. When he tries to swim he simply flips over onto his back and becomes unable to do anything but wave his legs ineffectually; this experience is so emotionally shattering for him that he runs screaming into the woods until he literally runs into a new face: Turmelon, his feminine equivalent. The two immediately fall in love (which is convenient seeing as how they appear to be the only turtle-melon things in Veggietown; hopefully the fact that hes a watermelon and shes um some other kind of melon wont prove too great a genetic barrier for the continuation of the species) and discover that by sticking their shells together they can form a perfectly round ball that is beautifully suited for rolling around and swimming. When theyve played for a while Waturtlemelon decides to bask in the sun for a little bit while Turmelon plays in the shallows. Unfortunately this is where disaster strikes, for the hot hot sun overheats Waturtlemelons shell and causes him to swell to dozens of times his natural size! Displaying their in-depth knowledge of Veggietowns slightly simply physics, the others decide that they must cool Waturtlemelon down; but since hes now too big to move they dont know how. Waterturtlemelon begins to cry in the face of his inability to be with Turmelon, and—what luck!— the flying tears cool him down enough to return him to his natural size. He and his lovely lady are joyfully reunited and Turmelon tells him its a great thing hes such a crybaby.
Episode 17 (Rain, Mushribbit) proves that the gang actually could have waited for the rain to cool off Waturtlemelon: Veggietown is being inundated and everyones feeling kind of glum. Fortunately the rain brings up the Mushribbits, whose cheerful kero noise brings bit of sunshine into the Vegitanimals hearts until, as the rain continues, the Mushribbit population becomes enormous and their constant noise keeps anyone from sleeping. Dogtato-kun, Hedgetato-chan, Croconion (who couldnt meditate from the noise), Cabbopotomous, Lettuphant, and Eggplooch have a town meeting to discuss the situation. After failing with his suggestion of building an enormous roof, Cabbotomous announces that hes got a fantastic idea: everyone grabs some nice big rocks and starts blocking up all the Mushribbits holes. That seems to do the trick until the ground begins to shake, the rocks fly every which way, and out of the ground leaps the GIGA-Mushribbit, who announces, in a GIGA-voice, GIGA-kero! He reaches down and grabs Hedgetato and Dogtato-kun, who think theyre done for but it turns out that hes only putting them under the shelter of his mushroom-head to keep the rain off. Dogtato-kun thanks him and apologizes for bullying him and the other Mushribbits. Just then the rain stops and the GIGA-Mushribbit slowly shrinks back to normal Mushribbit size, then goes back into the ground. Everyones glad its over but just then thunder sounds, the rain begins again, and, bigger and more all-consuming than ever, the deep voice of destruction is heard: GIGA-KERO!
