Spring Fever

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Bon soir,

How is your Spring Semester going so far? Mine’s been good, but busy. I am not a fan of this commuting thing. There are a lot of stupid drivers on the 694 in the afternoon =_=;

I’m personally excited this week, as we finally get to meet my favorite character in Pandora Hearts <3 ( 'Cause I know you were all on the edge of your seats to find out who I like ;P ) We're entering his story arc just in time for Valentine's Day 8D

Speaking of which, not this Saturday, but next Saturday (Feb 11th), we'll be having a Valentine's Day anime club. What does this mean? Absolutely nothing...

...except that I want all of you to print out a picture (or bring plushie/figure/whatever) of your anime crush so you can spend the club that day with them ;P Or, for those of you with REAL girlfriends/boyfriends, I suppose bringing them will suffice... XP

Sound stupid? It's called being whimsical. Deal with it.

Also, as always, it would be nice if you could bring some sort of snack to share...candy, or cookies, or whatnot.

Sincerely,

[spoiler]

Blythe Atkinson

Interim Break

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Hey guys, quick question:

Who is going to be on campus during Interim Break? Aka, if we offer anime club on Saturday, who will come?

I’ll let you all know by Friday whether we will have anime club or not. I NEED you to reply and tell me what your plans are, though.

-Blythe

PS: (Yeah, I know, Michael, I gotta add you to the anime club list. I haven’t had time to search for the password for it yet, though, so for now you’ll be listed separately ^^; ) _______________________________________________ The Bethel Anime Club e-mail list Anime-Club@lists.bethel.edu Go to https://lists.bethel.edu/mailman/options/anime-club/anime%40scaleddesign.net to change your list options

In The Anime World

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Bon nuit!

We’re back together again, and, personally, I’m very pleased with the selection of shows we chose for the spring. Still, there were three excellent shows which we couldn’t present at Anime Club because they are currently in limbo (licensed by an American company but not released yet). So I’m gonna take a moment to give you the titles, and recommend them. They are three very different genres, but all worth your time.

Madoka Magica Licensed by: Aniplex USA Plot Summary: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12120 OP:

No.6 Licensed by: Sentai Filmworks Plot Summary: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12399 OP:

Princess Jellyfish Licensed by: Funimation Plot Summary: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11282 OP:

If/when you have time, I would suggest checking them out (if you haven’t already).

And, while we’re on the note of shows, Bandai Entertainment (roughly the third largest player in the North American anime industry), is severely downsizing. While we’re not sure what will become of the company, ANN is predicting that very soon we will not be able to get ahold of their shows. This includes winners like Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. If you don’t want to take your chances, I would advise getting these titles NOW. I just bought up the rest of Code Geass (which I’ve been meaning to get around to doing anyway). If you don’t want to buy, that’s totally fine. Just thought I would give you fair warning. (Cowboy Bebop is also Bandai, but it’s also the only Bandai title that’s expected to be picked up if/when Bandai goes under. The rest will probably disappear from North America for good).

I don’t know if anyone cares about the industry, but it’s something that I’ve been paying close attention to. Since I got in to anime 6 or so years ago, two major companies have gone down (ADV and Tokyopop), and the forecast isn’t looking too bright.

Thought I’d start your week off on a bad note ;P

Anyway, see you all on Saturday!

Blythe

PS: Don’t forget to check out the preview to this season’s shows Matt sent out! I haven’t gotten a chance to watch anything this season yet, so I hope there are some gems! _______________________________________________ The Bethel Anime Club e-mail list Anime-Club@lists.bethel.edu Go to https://lists.bethel.edu/mailman/options/anime-club/anime%40scaleddesign.net to change your list options

The Plan

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Ladies and Gentlemen (and ambigious anthropomorphic beings),

Some of you have been wondering (as I have), what we are doing for Anime Club during J-Term. In past years we spend the few weeks of January watching anime movies, and wait to pick up our series again in the spring.

HOWEVER,

since no one will be gone during J-Term, we’re gonna try something new this year. Starting this Saturday we’re starting (or continuing) our series.

Just as a reminder, the series you selected are:

-Hourou Musuko (Wandering Son) -Toward the Terra -Serial Experiments Lain -Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 -Pandora Hearts

Because we are starting our series early, that means we will probably finish them before the end of Spring Term. So THAT is when we will watch anime films (with whatever time we have left). The end of year is when everything is wrapping up, and people frequently can’t show because of projects, papers, and finals, so it makes more sense to do things that can be finished in one viewing then :)

So, am I smart or what?

XP

Please send all complaints this way. I will take the time to read all of them carefully before laughing while I burn them.

Your loving dictator,

Blythe

Be There If You Want Your Voice Heard

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

So…we’re a little unorganized, but by the sounds of it we’ll be deciding on what we watch for the Spring Term tomorrow (or today. Depends if I finish this email in the next 11 minutes). Gossett and I (and Matt if he wants) will be bringing in a few shows to sample for you. Also, if you own any shows you would like to share, please bring them in.

See you all tomorrow!
